'Rise of the Guardians': Santa, Easter Bunny, and Sandman in knock-out new clip! -- VIDEO

Kids often dream about waking up and catching Santa or the Tooth Fairy in their rooms.

In this new clip from DreamWorks Animation’s Rise of the Guardians, one such kid gets way more than he bargained for.

The premise of the movie, opening Nov. 21, is that Santa Claus (voiced by Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and the short, silent Sandman are not just myths who bring presents or good dreams, but warriors who help combat the forces of evil.

One of the worst of these forces is Pitch (Jude Law), a twisted take on the Boogeyman, who derives his power from children’s fears.

This clip takes place after an attack by Pitch on the Tooth Fairy, which renders her army of hummingbird-sized fairies (who are like remote control versions of her) out of commission. As they try to formulate a counter-attack, Santa (who prefers the moniker North), Bunny, and Sandy decide to help her gather up that evening’s teeth — though they are inexperienced at this particular task.

Jack Frost (voiced by Chris Pine) is a novice mythical hero, who isn’t even sure he wants to be one of the Guardians of Childhood. But he gets dragged along anyway, and as you can see — he tends to make the situation worse instead of better.

Directed by Peter Ramsey, a storyboard artist on movies such as Fight Club and Adaptation, Rise of the Guardians is based on a collection of stories written and illustrated by William Joyce, who is a sort of legend in his own right with books such as Dinosaur Bob and the Oscar-winning short-turned-storybook The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.

Read more about the bittersweet origins of Rise of the Guardians here, where Joyce recalls how his late daughter inspired him by asking about Santa and the Easter Bunny: “Do they know each other?”

And here is the behind-the-scenes account of Joyce and co-director Brandon Oldenburg’s rowdy Oscar-win last year for The Fantastic Flying Books.
