'iCarly' favorites join 'Sam & Cat' for special episode -- EXCLUSIVE CLIP

As if the Kids’ Choice Awards airing Saturday night wasn’t enough good TV for one night, Nickelodeon is also airing a special hour-long episode of Sam & Cat before the awards show.

In the episode, iCarly regulars show up — but it’s not a happy reunion for everyone. Nora (Danielle Morrow), the “#SuperPsycho” referred to in the episode’s title, plots revenge on Sam (Jennette McCurdy), as Nevel (Reed Alexander) tries to help Sam and Cat (Ariana Grande) escape her wrath.

“It’s just a really fun, big episode where we brought back some of the fans’ favorite characters from the past to join Sam and Cat,” showrunner Dan Schneider tells EW. “I think the audience will go nuts over it.” READ FULL STORY

From 'Laverne & Shirley' to 'Sam & Cat': Penny Marshall, Cindy Williams to guest-star -- EXCLUSIVE PHOTO

Nickelodeon’s Sam & Cat chronicles the antics and adventures of two roommates who couldn’t be more different, in the tradition of sitcoms like The Odd Couple and Laverne & Shirley. Now the stars of Laverne & Shirley are set to reunite on the Nickelodeon show — Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams taped a guest appearance last week.

The above photo is an EW exclusive peek at the celebrated comedy actresses with Sam & Cat stars Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande.

In this episode, Sam and Cat are ordered to rename their babysitting business because the name sounds too similar to Salmon Cat, a TV show Marshall and Williams’ characters created. The girls track down the show’s creators, attempting to resolve their three decades-long feud and to get the rights to use their names for their business.

The episode marks the first time in over 30 years that Williams and Marshall have worked together on a scripted program. Laverne & Shirley, a spin-off of Happy Days, ran for eight seasons, beginning in 1976.

McCurdy, who plays Sam, told EW she watched reruns of Laverne & Shirley on TV Land when she was about 8 years old. She recalled loving Laverne’s tough attitude — a brazen demeanor that is a lot like Sam’s.

Sophia Grace and Rosie guest star on Nickelodeon's 'Sam & Cat' -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

New Nickelodeon series Sam & Cat will feature a pint-sized British invasion in this Saturday’s episode. Sophia Grace Brownlee and Rosie McClelland, of viral video and The Ellen DeGeneres Show fame, guest star as two English girls whom Sam and Cat babysit. The girls at first appear sweet and well-behaved, but they end up being quite a handful because they’re actually con artists.

“Sophia Grace and Rosie are the most professional, incredible kids I’ve ever met,” Ariana Grande, who plays Cat, told EW. “It was kind of unreal, like, I was embarrassed. They knew their lines better than I did. They knew my lines better than I did.”

Grande also recalled how excited Brownlee and McClelland were to try on new dresses for a costume change and how well they knew TV set lingo: At one point, McClelland told the crew, “Just one more for safety, please!”

'Sam & Cat': Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande on their new 'Odd Couple'-esque Nickelodeon show

The worlds of popular Nickelodeon shows iCarly and Victorious first met in summer 2011 on a special three-part episode called “iParty with Victorious.” But in that crossover, there were two key characters who never got to meet — iCarly‘s Sam Puckett and Victorious‘ Cat Valentine.

Now the two girls who often stole the spotlight in their original Nick shows will have plenty of time together, in their new show, Sam & Cat, which airs its series premiere tonight. It’s a crossover spin-off that continues the stories of the two characters in their post-iCarly and Victorious lives — both aired their series finales last year. In Sam & Cat, the duo meets when Sam travels from Seattle to talk about the web show at Hollywood Arts, Cat’s high school. They eventually become friends, and when Sam transplants permanently to L.A., they become roommates and start a babysitting business together.

Sam’s real-life alter ego, nearly 21-year-old Jennette McCurdy, admits that she was initially “not the most enthusiastic” about the idea of continuing to play the character she had embodied for six years, but once she heard that the new show would be a spin-off with Cat Valentine, she was on board, largely for the opportunity to work with Cat’s portrayer Ariana Grande and to see what happened when these two different-as-night-and-day characters were tossed in new situations together.

Fan favorite Nickelodeon shows iCarly and Victorious have aired their final episodes, but the stories of their sidekick characters continue in the new spin-off series Sam & Cat.

Yes, that’s brash, sarcastic Sam Puckett of iCarly and sweet, innocent Cat Valentine of Victorious — two girls who couldn’t be more different. In their eponymous new series, the duo meets when Sam travels from Seattle to talk about the web show at Hollywood Arts, Cat’s high school. They eventually become friends, and when Sam transplants permanently to L.A., they become roommates and start a babysitting business together.

Sam (Jennette McCurdy) and Cat (Ariana Grande) share a room in their new home that is quite the display of their contrasting personalities. Check out your exclusive first look at their room below (and click on the photo to view a larger, high-res version):

Nick's 'Sam & Cat' gets June premiere date

Your tween’s crossover fanfiction will soon hit the small screen: New spinoff series, Sam & Cat, starring Ariana Grande (Victorious’ Cat Valentine) and Jennette McCurdy (iCarly’s Sam Puckett) will premiere on Saturday, June 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon. The show will follow the Victorious and iCarly faves as they meet, become best friends and, in a plot twist that will make Baby-Sitters Club adult fans want to cheer, start their very own babysitting service.

The show was created by Nick regular Dan Schneider (iCarly, Victorious, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101). The premiere episode will have total opposites Sam and Cat meet when a wild predicament lands both girls in the back of a moving garbage truck. They then find themselves babysitting three young kids, and soon after, Sam & Cat’s Super Rockin’ Fun-Time Babysitting Service is born.

Sam & Cat is the perfect vehicle to showcase the amazing chemistry and comedic talents of Jennette and Ariana,” said Russell Hicks, President of Content Development and Production at Nickelodeon, in a release. “Fans will love seeing two of their favorite Nick characters back in action in this wild and hilarious comedy.”
