'My Little Pony Equestria Girls': Yes, there will be a sequel. And we've got a clip! EXCLUSIVE

Thought the adventures of My Little Pony‘s Equestria Girls — pony-human hybrids who share the names and personalities of My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic‘s Mane 6 — ended when Twilight Sparkle escaped back through the portal to Canterlot High?

Think again. (Also, the previous sentence makes sense — I promise.)

Hasbro Studios reveals exclusively to EW that it will release a second Equestria Girls movie later this year. The film’s plot is under wraps for now — but given this teaser and the film’s title, My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks, it’s safe to assume that music will play a larger role than ever. Get ready to shake your tail and watch the clip below:

Cartoon ponies turned cartoon humans turned actual humans — is your head spinning yet?

No? In that case, you’ll enjoy this brand-new music video for “The Magic of Friendship,” a kicky pop tune being used as the “brand anthem” for My Little Pony Equestria Girls. In the clip, real girls cast as avatars for the movie’s animated characters — who are themselves hominid versions of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic‘s Mane 6 — introduce a school cafeteria to, you guessed it, the joys of companionship. They also teach a new dance called the EG Stomp, performed more easily with hands and feet than hooves.

Missed Equestria Girls — the hominid spinoff of My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic — when it galloped into theaters earlier this summer, and can’t wait to watch it on TV this September?

You’re in luck: The full-length film’s DVD and Blu-ray debut is just one week away.

The home release includes a stable of special features, including karaoke songs, a “ponify yourself” game, a printable movie poster — and a behind-the-scenes doc that explains how FIM‘s creative team transformed the “mane six” ponies into human high-schoolers. Get a glimpse of it in the clip below, which features story editor Meghan McCarthy explaining the throughline between FIM‘s very first episode and Equestria Girls itself.

'My Little Pony Equestria Girls' coming to network TV on...

Are your horsey senses tingling? That’s probably because The Hub Network announced some big news Monday: My Little Pony Equestria Girls, a full-length feature film that enjoyed a theatrical run this summer, will premiere on network TV Sunday, Sept. 1, at noon ET.

The story follows newly crowned princess Twilight Sparkle as she journeys to a mysterious new land in search of a stolen crown. After passing through a looking glass, the alicorn pony discovers that she’s been transformed into a human high school student — and that five of her classmates look and sound just like her pony pals back in Equestria.

Hold your horses, 'My Little Pony' fans: We've got a new 'Equestria Girls' trailer -- EXCLUSIVE

My-Little-Pony-Equestria-Girls.jpg

Yes, the idea of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic‘s equine mane six being recast as human high school students sounds a little crazy at first.

But it’s tough not to be charmed by that premise after watching this brand-spankin’-new trailer, which clearly lays out the movie’s plot. Shortly after she’s named a princess, Twilight Sparkle’s all-important crown is stolen by wicked Sunset Shimmer, who spirits it through a looking glass. In order to get the tiara back, Twilight must follow her adversary into a new and strange world — one populated by weird-two-legged creatures who bear an odd resemblance to her pony pals back in Equestria.

There’s some rote stuff here, to be sure (“Looks like if I want my crown back, I’ll have to become princess of the fall formal!”) — but Friendship is Magic‘s quirky-cute sense of humor appears to be largely intact, which is really all that matters.
