'Pretty Little Liars' burning questions: Executive producer Oliver Goldstick talks red coat, Wilden's car and a new suspect coming to town

If, by some miracle, you thought you knew what was going on in Rosewood, last night’s season three finale probably proved you wrong … or at least presented you with a few new puzzles to solve. The bad news? The answers to those puzzles are months away. The good news? I might have something that will help you with your theories.

This morning, after my head stopped spinning with questions of motives, teams, and trunks, I spoke with PLL executive producer Oliver Goldstick about all things red coat, Toby, the arrival of a new suspect, and more:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: At this point, is the red coat mystery supposed to be solved, or is that still up in the air?

OLIVER GOLDSTICK: It will still be up in the air. We knew we threw something at the audience. We called it the “Is She or Isn’t She” episode, because we threw something at audience that we felt like a lot of the audience suspected was happening already and whether to confirm their suspicions or at least throw some spin on it, we wanted to bring the girls up to speed with where the audience was. The audience was suspecting that Alison was alive; we certainly wanted the girls to come into the fourth season with the same theory. READ FULL STORY »

'Pretty Little Liars' finale react: 'All things truly wicked start from innocence'

Romance, heartbreak, burning buildings and lots of eyeliner … this episode had it all.

In the season three finale, the Liars were finally ready to fight back. Spencer kicked things off by going undercover as a member of the “A” team, where she organized a party at a remote lodge so that the elusive red coat could come face-to-face with the four girls she isn’t too fond of. But the party wasn’t until Friday, which meant Spencer had plenty of time to beat Mona at her own game.

Turns out, during Mona’s little visit Radley, she informed Spencer that Toby was still alive. So step one of Spence’s plan involved kidnapping Malcolm (and therefore, breaking up Aria and Ezra) in order to earn Mona’s trust. And then when Mona wasn’t looking, Spencer found Toby’s contact information and had him meet her at a diner. Spoiler: Toby’s alive! And so are his abs.

Minutes after reuniting, Toby took Spencer to his motel room, where they’d be safe. Toby claimed that everything he had done was to protect Spencer. Tears were shed, clothes were removed, and shirtless Toby was welcomed back (with open arms) to the PLL universe.

While Spence and Toby were reuniting, Aria and Ezra were saying goodbye (which they did a lot). Aria explained that they didn’t feel “right” anymore, and Ezra took a job at the high school. They both agreed to move on, but only after they shared one last kiss. Perhaps next year, they’ll revisit the parking lot? Or are they really done for good?

Without any pressing relationship issues, Hanna and Emily spent the episode snooping. Emily witnessed a late night conversation between Jenna, Shana and Melissa, in which Melissa invited them both to the Hastings soirée that Friday. We also learned that Jenna’s eyesight is slowly deteriorating. But at least she’s got Shana to take care of her. So are these two … together?

Meanwhile, Hanna was busy playing a fun game of “guess who” with Malcolm in which he identified Spencer as his kidnapper. When the Liars confronted Spencer about her double-agent status, she filled them in on Friday’s red coat arrival.

And when Friday first rolled around, things were looking good for the Liars. Spencer had Toby helping her find red coat (who flew herself into town on a private plane?) while the other three cornered Mona about her plan. But when two mysterious figures emerged, things went up in flames … literally. Mona, Aria, Emily and Hanna were trapped in the lodge as it started to burn. It was then that Mona revealed that she had never met red coat.

But that’s not all! In the woods, Toby was knocked unconscious by the person who set the fire, and Spencer sort of maybe saw red coat’s face. And she wasn’t the only one. According to Mona, red coat pulled the girls out of the fire. Mona, Spencer and Hanna all agreed: They saw Ali in the red coat.

Then again, was that even possible? Aria wasn’t convinced. Back in town, Wilden’s car re-emerged. In it, a video revealed that Jenna and Shana saved Wilden. But somebody else wasn’t so lucky … the girls opened the trunk to reveal something that was, well, gasp-worthy. Was it a dead boy? Was it Jason?!

And now, to the season’s final flashback! Just as in the midseason finale, we saw an arm emerge from the ground, but this time it received a helping hand (from someone in red?). Was it Ali’s hand? If so, who saved her? And is she now red coat? But why would red coat save the girls?

Final questions: Who were the two figures in the woods? Are they working with red coat? Is Toby really good?

Hit the comments with your questions: I’m talking to executive producer Oliver Goldstick later this morning!

'Pretty Little Liars' React: Will Spencer betray her best friends?

Body bags, candy stripers and flashbacks, oh my!

Season three’s next-to-last episode kicked off with a rainy night at Radley, where the Liars reunited with their not-so-fearless leader. The girls had news: Park Rangers recovered a body in the woods, and it wasn’t Toby. It also wasn’t anywhere near the location Spencer mentioned. So was it the same body? A different one? That’s to be determined … along with Spencer’s level of sanity. After walking out on her friends, Spencer told her mom she wasn’t ready to come home. But Mrs. Hastings didn’t go down without a fight. Cue the flashback! Mama Hastings revealed that she had found Ali (with a bloody lip!) sneaking into their house late one night about two weeks before she disappeared.

With that in mind, Spence went snooping. Eddie — who does not like Wren at all (think visitor pass troubles) — gave Spencer a board game that used to be Mona’s favorite, which ended up being a map that pointed to two things: An unlocked window (Mona’s escape route?) and a toy horse in that creepy baby room of Radley (you know the one).

When Spence eventually found her way to the baby room, she also found her way to a hallucination (?) of Ali. As the duo danced in that straight-out-of-a-horror-movie room, Spencer asked if Toby was the one that hit Ali. But according to Ali, “Girls fight much dirtier than boys.” Who was she talking about? CeCe? Melissa?

Speaking of CeCe, Spencer’s visit to the baby room also led her to Mona’s stash of visitor passes, including one for Miss CeCe Drake, authorized by Wren. Luckily (or not), Wren was there to explain himself. He admitted to getting CeCe in, but only because he thought CeCe could be a role model for Mona. Apparently, Ali had gotten CeCe kicked out of “university” after some stunt she pulled at a frat party, and CeCe had found a way to move past her anger at Ali. Is that really why CeCe was visiting, or was the captain of the “A” team checking in with Mona? Do you believe that Wren is innocent?

Outside of Radley, Aria was dealing with the fact that “A” kidnapped Malcolm when she was supposed to pick him up from karate. Somehow, Malcolm kept his mouth shut to his parents, but Aria couldn’t. She sort of maybe broke up with Ezra. I think. And while we’re talking relationships, what was up with Emily texting Shana when Paige was out of town?! I smell drama.

And let’s not forget about Hanna, who had to worry about Caleb’s father stealing from the church. After Jamie was fired for suspicion of stealing, Hanna fessed up about the donation money. And minutes after Caleb ended things with his father, Hanna discovered that “A” was behind the whole thing. Whoops.

Now to the real crazy stuff:  Another young male’s body was found, and this one was where Spencer said Toby was. The male had suffered “significant trauma” and did not have I.D. But he did have a certain tattoo, which looked a little smeared to me, didn’t you think? So was it Toby this time? And what was red coat doing at the morgue? More questions: Why would Melissa call CeCe to tell her that Mona was in Radley? What game are these older folks playing?

Finally, Spencer revealed what she was hiding in her pillowcase, and I’m not talking about the sleeping pills. Spence had a black hoodie and two tickets to the creepiest puppet show on Earth (right, Malcolm?). Is Spencer going undercover, or is she joining the “A” team? WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

And don’t forget, this is your last chance to talk red coat theories before the finale!

'Pretty Little Liars' react: 'You don't know who I am anymore'

Detective Wilden is alive! Spencer is locked up! Toby’s body is missing! Yep, I think it’s safe to say that Rosewood has officially passed Mystic Falls as the craziest place to live, and it doesn’t even have supernatural beings … that we know of. Let’s dig in!

After Melissa showed up at the school looking for Spencer, the girls set out on a very lackluster mission to find her. In their not-at-all-panicked search for Spencer, Aria decided to help Ezra find a teaching job, and Hanna convinced her mom that a job in New York might be a good thing. Meanwhile, Jane Doe (aka Spencer) was busy bonding with her caretaker at Radley, whose name just happened to be Eddie Lamb. Eddie spilled the beans that they thought Spencer might have amnesia (which was clearly false), and that the only reason she was sent to Radley was because county was full. Talk about good timing. 'Pretty Little Liars' React: Another dead body in Rosewood?!

And another one (possibly) bites the dust …

In tonight’s episode of Pretty Little Liars, “Out of Sight, Out of Mind,” the Liars continued their downward spiral(s). Aria struggled with her post-Malcolm relationship with Ezra, Hanna struggled with her mother’s secret, Emily struggled with Toby’s supposed betrayal, and Spencer struggled with Toby’s … dead body?! 'Pretty Little Liars' react: Melissa Hastings is back on the suspect list

Once again, the Hastings household is officially the least-safe place to be in Rosewood. Well, other than the woods and the occasional elevator. Between Toby’s knowledge of Spencer’s house, Melissa’s presence and all the fancy showers/saunas, we’d suggest Spencer and Aria spend their Team Sparia time at the Montgomery residence.

For those of you playing catch-up, Spencer was a busy girl in Pretty Little Liars Season 3, Episode 20 “Hot Water.” After hiding from just about everyone in her life, making out with Wren, and having her first red coat sighting, she suffered the latest “A”ttack in her own bathroom. First, her fancy shower turned into a sauna. Then, a certain black hoodie got involved and turned the sauna into more of a boiler room. Luckily, Aria was there to save her (from being burned to death?!). Was it Toby that attacked Spencer? The message “A” left certainly seemed jealous of Wren. Does that mean that in some weird twisted way Toby actually does care? READ FULL STORY »

'Pretty Little Liars' React: The return of the N.A.T. Club

Jason! CeCe! Melissa! Wren! This episode was full of so many familiar faces that I might have suffered some minor whiplash … but I know I’ll recover faster than Jason, who was dropped to his almost-death in an elevator. Was it the “A” team? Was it the N.A.T. Club? Let’s dig in! READ FULL STORY »

'Pretty Little Liars' react: Who's in charge of the 'A' team?

PRETTY-LITTLE-LIARS

It’s official: Red is the new black. Or perhaps red is just more powerful than black.

Pretty Little Liars Season 3, Episode 18 “Dead to Me” was all about heartbreak, heartache and a little hypnotherapy. From Aria spending her days lying in Ezra’s bed waiting for the phone to ring to Caleb’s trip to his childhood home, tonight’s episode was full of frowns … and the occasional scream.

First things first: Jason returned to Rosewood along with Ali’s remains, and he thoughtfully arranged for the girls to say goodbye to Ali at the local mausoleum. But not everybody was eager to bid farewell to Ali yet again. Instead, Spencer decided she was too busy hanging out with her PI-turned-therapist and discovering that Toby bought a bunch of hydrangeas before skipping town. Could he have a soft side after all? 'Pretty Little Liars' React: Baby secrets revealed!

Pretty-Little-Liars_510x317.jpg

Tears, overprotective (and slightly sketchy) parents, the return of Detective Wilden and more tears made up the formula for Pretty Little Liars Season 3, Episode 17.

The episode, which kicked off with a very dark dream, turned into an ever darker reality when Spencer had to face the world knowing that the man she loves is a member of the “A” team. From storming out of class to accidentally telling Ezra that he has a kid, Spencer’s day was full of surprises. But after having enough of the “A” team’s games, she took things into her own hands by putting on some mascara and meeting with a private investigator, who will hopefully find out the purpose of the key that Toby dropped when traumatizing Hanna in last week’s mannequin debacle.

'Degrassi' react: What happened in Vegas

degrassi-las-vegas

It’s a[nother] Degrassi wedding!

Well, sort of. Well — spoiler alert! — not at all. Though Drew and Bianca journeyed to Vegas intending to get hitched, second thoughts ended up prompting the lovebirds to wait until they can throw a real wedding that doesn’t take place in a cheap, Sin City chapel.

At least Drianca escaped from Vegas with their relationship intact. For a moment, it looked like Drew’s need to get his mother’s approval was going to prompt a lasting breakup. When Audra showed up at the chapel to stop her son from making a big mistake, Bianca bailed, saying that she knew she’d never be enough for Drew. (Wait a tick — I thought Audra told Bianca that she’s the one who’s too good for Drew.) Luckily, musical numbers heal all wounds — all Drew had to do to win Bianca back was don a glittery gold Elvis suit and draft his friends to help him perform a romantic cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Even the gang’s new drag queen pals got in on the action! The sequence wasn’t quite as amazing as Dallas’s insta-classic “rap-pology,” but I’d still rank it among this season’s sweetest moments.
