'Teen Beach Movie' set to ride the wave tonight -- EXCLUSIVE

The stars of the Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie, which premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT, had better strap in.

Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally) and Maia Mitchell (The Fosters) are no strangers to the publicity machine. But their turns as Brady and McKenzie, a pair of modern-day beach bunnies who find themselves mysteriously transported into a fluffy ’60s beach movie, are sure to ramp that up a notch. The lighthearted fun is in keeping with Disney musical fare and will likely be on repeat in households this summer.

So get ready and check out the featurette below where the cast runs down the story and show off the costumes and the 60s’ lingo. And then scroll through our exclusive photos.

One Direction plus Disney Channel's 'Teen Beach Movie' -- EXCLUSIVE

In case your tween needed another reason to look forward to the premiere of Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie, One Direction will cameo during three program breaks within the movie’s July 19 (8 p.m. ET/PT) airing to announce the winner of their Radio Disney Sizzlin’ Summer Concert Series Sweepstakes. One fan and their family will get to fly out to L.A. to see the group in concert at the Radio Disney Luxury Suite at Staples Center.

And if you’re not the winner, don’t worry: Everyone will get to see the Radio Disney Planet Premiere of the band’s video for their latest release “Best Song Ever” from their upcoming concert movie, This Is Us. The feature-length theatrical release is directed by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) and will be out August 30.

Get ready for Disney's all-singing, all-surfing 'Teen Beach Movie' -- EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS

Do these photos look a little too earnest for a tale set in the 20-teens? There’s a reason for that: Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie stars Maia Mitchell and Ross Lynch — pictured above, with Garrett Clayton (far left) and Grace Phipps (far right) — as McKenzie and Brady, a pair of modern-day beach bunnies who find themselves mysteriously transported into a fluffy ’60s beach movie. (Think Pleasantville, plus music, minus nude paintings of Joan Allen.)

Surf's up! Disney Channel's 'Teen Beach Movie' will premiere in July -- EXCLUSIVE

Is Teen Beach Movie the next High School Musical?

We’ll find out July 19, when Disney Channel’s next big family film — formerly known as Teen Beach Musical – premieres at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The sunny tale centers on Brady and McKenzie (Ross Lynch and Maia Mitchell), a pair of surfers who find themselves mysteriously transported into an old-fashioned, Beach Blanket Bingo-esque movie. As they search for a way out of this all-singing, all-dancing ’60s world, they discover that they’ve accidentally changed the movie’s storyline (à la Pleasantville) — a mistake which could alter their lives forever.
